Gray or white hair tends to look best with pink, olive, and dark complexions. If you are very pale, you’ll probably look washed-out and should consider highlights or low-lights. Brown hair that looks mousy as the gray comes in can be brightened and enriched by adding in highlights and low-lights.

Another good option if you’re just starting to go gray is to use a semi permanent glaze. This will stain a lot of the gray, and when the color starts to fade, you won’t have a root line. If your gray comes in wiry, it’s because it’s dry, so use a weekly deep condition to moisturize and calm it down. To counteract any yellow tones, get a violet-based gloss at the salon every six to eight weeks; it coats the hair and gives it shine.

What Hair Color Should I Ask My Stylist For?

I don’t want something drastic or too high maintenance. I’m looking for a color with a bit more vibrancy and dimension, maybe. Something natural looking but with more "oomph".

I wear a MAC NC20 (skin tone in the third picture). I tan deeply since I’m part Hawaiian, but skin goes from ivory to a light golden brown, so I want it to look good if I get some more color too. I’m Asian/Spanish/White/Native American as well and I have a lot of yellow tones in my skin and as a kid had red tones in my hair. Celebrities and models I could look up (pictures for stylist) would be great.

The reason I’m not looking at the camera is because the person who took the pictures is a friend who I have trouble making eye contact with, for some reason. Pretty unusual, since I’m a Scorpio. I don’t think that looking away from the camera would hide my flaws. That’s the job of makeup. =P
