To counteract any yellow tones, get a violet-based gloss at the salon every six to eight weeks; it coats the hair and gives it shine.

I want to get a permanent result at home, and most of the gray color treatments are for men, like Grecian formula which I tried but smells awful, or they wash out very quickly.

    My hair color is in it’s natural state as of the last two years now I haven’t colored it. I plan on going to a salon. My question is …..I have very dark brown with a thick grey streak, plus other grey hairs (I’m 54) I have a light olive complexion. What colors should I go with? Also my hair is short pixie cut.     well you could go with your natural color and just get the gray color, it will be very simple, cheap and quick.

    You could get your natural color with highlights into it, that will give it more depth and a new look.

    Or you can go completly diffrent and tell the stylist to do what she feels is a good change on your hair. I can’t really tell you much of what to do because I haven’t seen a picture, but 54 isn’t old and your hair can look HOT! No need for that gray to be there :)

    One woman I dne all through school was about your age and she had your general hair color and skin tone and she use to get it colored all over with a ginger and then have blonde highlights all throughout, she kept it fairly short aswell and would spike the back out and smooth in the bang area. It rocked! She would change it up now and then with a hot red, auburn or blonde with fad colors (green, pink, red, blue etc) done in placements
