How to choose the right hair color

Hundreds of years ago, women are already coloring their hairs. It started as a practice for the females of the ancient Egyptians. Nowadays, 65-75% of women dye their hair. While a significant number of men are joining the trend. Usually, females color their hair for fashionable reasons. In general, the males use coloring products to bring back their gray hairs into its original color. Hair coloring is a good trend of hairdressing, nowadays.

      Uses of Hair Dye

Hair Dyeing is used to make our gray hair return to its natural color.
To change our hair color into a shade that is more fashionable and desirable.
To bring back our hair to its natural and original color after it was discolored by chemicals such as relaxers, sun bleaching and tints.
Human hair is naturally not evenly colored. For individuals who have sensitive scalps, it is recommended to use a 100% natural hair dye or a plant based henna hair color. If you want to dye your hair without any need for harsh chemicals, you may go for temporary hair dyes and highlight treatments. The question is: which shade and product is right for you for the effects that you want.

Choosing the color of your hair

First and foremost, it is important to understand the different types of hair dyes before choosing the best hair color for you. Be careful in selecting the right dye because hair colorings contain chemicals that may damage your hair if not used properly.
Permanent Hair Dyes. It is more effective to use this kind of dye to cover gray hair and to lighten the color of the hair. To allow the color pigments penetrate deep into the hair shaft, the procedure includes the stripping of the hair cuticle. It is best to create this look with the help of a professional hair dresser.
Semi-permanent dye. This dye is the most popular choice in the market. Semi-permanent dye a.k.a. underground color does not wash out the next day. It can last for 8 to 20 washes.
Temporary hair dyes. It comes in the form of rinses, gels, pastes, mousses and sprays. The temporary hair dye normally coats the surface of the hair. It does not lift the original color from the cuticle or penetrate the hair shaft. The dye can be washed out easily lasting only for 1 to 3 shampoos.
Gradual/progressive hair dyes. The dye is best for darkening the color of the hair. The more often you use this dye; the darker your hair color becomes. When it is used less, the faster it will return to gray hair that the dye was meant to cover.
Highlighting. It is one of the hottest trends today. This type of dyeing lightens the color of the hair to create a sun-streaked look where the rays of the sun naturally fall. Hair dressers recommend the shade that is three times lighter than your natural hair color.

Be careful when dyeing your hair. Do not remix different hair coloring products because it may result to harmful reactions. Choose the color that blends with your natural hair dye to avoid possible hair damage; the lighter the dye compared to you hair color, the greater amount of possible damages.

I have natural ash blonde color hair and it is currently almost bleach blonde. About the same color as Jessica Simpson’s hair. I want to keep the light blonde but add some of my natural color highlights to make it look more natural and sun highlighted. I know if I do that it will appear to look gray since its an ash tone. How can I achieve this without it appearing gray? Thanks!
